This year’s RIAI Conference, which will take place on 8–9 October at the RDS Dublin, will explore design, planning and governance solutions for Irish cities, towns and neighbourhoods, in addressing challenges such as a lack of affordable housing, vacancy and dereliction, and the impact of climate change.
Irish and international speakers will discuss and debate quality-based design solutions in meeting the challenges for all types of neighbourhoods in Ireland – from towns to larger cities during the two-day event at the RDS Dublin and online.
The two-day event will bring together national and international practitioners and thought leaders at the RDS Dublin and online…
- Jose Toral from Peris Toral Arquitectes in Barcelona will present quality public housing schemes that use innovative materials and construction methods for municipalities across Spain.
- Sheila O’Donnell FRIAI and John Tuomey FRIAI, founders of O’Donnell + Tuomey, will discuss how they’re shaping a new piece of London, East Bank, on the former 2012 London Olympic site, including housing and buildings for major cultural institutions, including the V&A and Sadler’s Wells.
- Valerie Mulvin FRIAI will share innovative conservation, adaptation and reuse solutions for existing buildings in Irish towns and cities, which contributes hugely to their vibrancy.
An Taoiseach Micheál Martin TD will provide a special conference address, while RIAI President Sean Mahon FRIAI will debate ‘Cities, Towns and Neighbourhoods’ with the panel of speakers over the two-day conference. The RIAI Conference will be held alongside the Architecture + Building Expo featuring many of Ireland’s leading building technology providers. The conference also sees the return of Constructive Interference #2 – a topical exhibition of student work from Ireland’s Schools of Architecture – while the RIAI Emerging and Student Awards will celebrate the rising stars of architecture and architectural technology.
